Counselling sessions with me are interactive and collaborative and look different every week depending on your feelings needs and goals at that time. I'm happy to work with you long-term or short-term.
Counselling relationships are designed to support people to create change in their lives. I believe that the most important aspect of this is the relationship you build with your counsellor, I hope that the information below helps you get a feel for who I am and helps you consider if you'd like to work with me.
I am a creative counsellor who enjoys being alongside clients, and creating a friendly collaborative space where people can deepen their awareness of their feelings and needs, and create change in their world. To do this I incorporate Gestalt and Existential theories into my work, which is at its heart, Person-Centred. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counsellor and Psychotherapists, my registration number is 398023, you're welcome to look me up on the BACP website here.
My counselling practice builds on my background in health psychology (in addition to my counselling training I have an MSc in Health Psychology from Sussex University and BSc in psychology from Exeter University) and my career in social research, where I have investigated lots of different topics that are important to people, including couples' relationship difficulties, communication within families, and young people's perspectives. I've also carried out research into sensitive topics, including the impact of sexual violence on people and needs of sexual violence survivors, domestic abuse and the experience of feeling suicidal when living with domestic abuse, and the needs of people bereaved by suicide.
I have experience of working with people with neurodiversity, including people with ADHD and autism. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally. I have extensive experience of working with bereaved and grieving people, including those who have experienced bereavement by suicide. I regularly work with survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse.
In addition to working with clients, I deliver training to counsellors and student counsellors, provide research and essay writing support to student counsellors, and volunteer to provide support to bereaved young people.
